The warm tropical waters (between 24ºC – 27ºC year
round) that are present within French Polynesia are home to some of
the most prized sport fishing & game fishing species in the world.
The drop off where the shallow outer reef falls away to deep Blue Ocean
is the hunting ground for the largest of ocean predators including all
species of Marlin (black and blue), Sharks, Mackerel, Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi,
Yellow fin tuna, Striped Tuna, Big eye Tuna, Wahoo and many others.
All of
these fish give the serious angler a run for their money once hooked
and in the island waters of French Polynesia, hooking a 1000lb Black
Marlin is a real possibility every time skirted lures are deployed into
action – once hooked the real fun begins.
Pelagic
fish will often herd schools of baitfish into tight groups, before launching
a barrage of savage attacks that can churn the water to foam.
This type of activity maybe signalled by diving birds and the trolling
of lures in and around these bait balls can bring about fishing sessions
that will be memories forever.
Dolphin Fish

The Dolphin fish (or mahi mahi, as it is often
called) is a fish species that epitomises almost every positive
attribute that an angler might wish for. This brilliantly coloured
fish is without doubt one of the most impressive angling opponents
to be found in the Pacific.
Marlin

Belonging to the billfish family, Marlin are
large, active marine predators with a bill or beak-like appendage
protruding from their upper jaw. The two main Marlin species
in the Tahitian waters are Black Marlin and Blue Marlin.
Wahoo

Wahoo were formed to a long slender shape for
one reason alone – speed. They are reputed to be the fastest
fish in the water and any angler who has experienced the initial
blinding run of a Wahoo will readily attest to this.
Yellowfin Tuna

The mighty Yellowfin Tuna is a slab of muscle
sculpted to the shape of a bullet and built with precision to
the finest detail. Every protruding fin has a neatly matching
slot into which it can fold back any time there might be the
need for speed.
